FAQs

Our clients often ask us…

How do I start?

When you get in touch with us, we will discuss your requirements during a consultation and complete some initial searches, free of charge, to determine that we are able to find the required information to start your project. Consultations take place online over Google Meet, by phone or email.

What information do you need from me?

If you’ve asked us to continue researching your family history, we will send you some paperwork to give us more details on yourself and as much as you know about your family i.e birth dates, places lived, professions etc. We value every piece of information, no matter how seemingly insignificant, and we would love to hear all about it! By sharing what you already know, it allows us to focus on uncovering the missing pieces. Feel free to share your cherished family stories, traditions, nicknames, and even any legendary tales that have been passed down. We will make sure to include them in your family tree research, preserving them for generations to come.

What if I have little to no information on my family?

Our expertise lies in uncovering answers even from the most subtle hints. If you’re unable to provide us with extensive background information on your family, don’t worry. However, any and all information you can provide is valuable, particularly if your surname is common!

What if i’m adopted?

Since 1927, a formal Register of Adoption has been maintained in England & Wales. The Children’s Act of 1975 grants adoptees the right to request their original birth certificate, which Forget Me Nots Genealogy can utilise to trace your birth family’s history both backward and forward in time. In Scotland, adoption has been legally acknowledged since 1930, and if an adopted person is over the age of 17 years old, they are provided with the relevant information.

What if you can’t find my family?

Although we cannot promise to uncover the exact answers you seek, we are committed to taking on projects that we believe have a fair chance of success. Our free initial checks allows us to ensure enough information is available to start your project. If this is the case, we will inform you after the consultation stage.

From time to time even the most skilled of researchers meet dead ends. We will keep you informed if this takes place and discuss other options i.e researching another line of your family.

How long does research take?

Each project is unique, and we will establish a suitable time frame and commencement date during our initial discussions. if you require research for a specific date, such as a birthday or anniversary gift, kindly provide us with ample notice. In some cases, with your consent, we may need to extend the schedule to accommodate responses from external parties i.e awaiting birth/marriage/death certificates. It is important to note that the most favourable outcomes are not always achieved the fastest!

What is the cost?
